Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan in a recent interview with The Wrap, goes on to confirm that she would love to see explore Harley Quinn’s relationship with Poison Ivy in a second installment or a spinoff to the movie. Yan goes on to say to The Wrap:
“I would love to see Poison Ivy and I would certainly love to see the relationship between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.”
Funny as majority of fans would had preferred a Gotham City Sirens comic book based movie, which originally was what the Harley Quinn movie was being molded to be in the early stages of development, but then it became Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.
Carry on with the interview, when asked if a sequel revolving around just Harley Quinn will actually happen, Yan goes on to say:
“I don’t know — I think people aren’t ready to let go of Harley Quinn quite yet and you know, Margot I don’t think is ready to let go of Harley Quinn yet either, so… hopefully.”
With the sadly disappointing box office returns for Birds of Prey, it might be awhile before Warner Bros. will be comfortable with another outing with Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn as one of the main focus. Though Quinn fans still won’t be completely voided of the character for too long, as James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which has already wrapped production and is slated with a release date of August 6th 2021, will feature the return of the Maid of Mischief once again.
