David Ayer Says Films Don’t Need End Credit Scenes to Link Projects

Suicide Squad director David Ayer recently spoke with USA Today on the film, such as talking about how he loved every minute with the villains, how Jared Leto’s Joker is the King of Planet Joker, how awesome Ben Affleck was as Batman in the film, confirming Affleck will be dawning the costume in Suicide Squad, and how his film will connect all the other films without having to add a post credit scene.

Then there’s Suicide Squad, which offers arguably the most colorful group of villains ever seen in a movie. And Ayer loved every minute with them. “We all need good guys and everything — yay, good guys — but at the end of the day, they’re kinda boring,” the Fury director says. “They’re always going to do the right thing. When you’re dealing with the baddies, it’s easy to get ahead of the audience and invert expectations.”

When talking about Jared Leto as The Joker:

“He’s the king of Planet Joker.”

On Ben Affleck having a fight scene as Batman in Suicide Squad:

“We made him fight,” the director says with a laugh. “He’s awesome (as Batman). … You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world.”

Ayer connecting all the films with one film:

“For me, it’s a little more than just dropping a cut scene in the end credits to link projects,” he says. “You really have to be thinking three movies downrange and how today’s movie will impact more later-cycle projects.”

Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie, from left), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Deadshot (Will Smith) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney).

A new photo of from Suicide Squad, was also released with the interview, which we finally get our firs look of Captain Boomerang, with a Boomerang:
