According to exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter, Henry Cavill will no longer be playing Superman in the DC Comics cinematic universe, as Cavill is parting ways with Warner Bros. due to contract talks between Cavill and the studio.
Cavill has appeared as Superman in three movies for the studio Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League and was in talks to make a cameo in David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! starring Zachary Levi, but the deal fell through due scheduling conflicts, according to THR’s source.
Also according to the reports, Warner Bros. wants to shifted its focus to Superman’s cousin Supergirl, as an origins movie is in the works for that character.
There’s no confirmation of this report by either Warner Bros. or Cavill himself, but Warner Bros. producer and manager to Cavill, Dany Garcia did go on Twitter stating the following:
Be peaceful, the cape is still in his closet. @wbpictures has been and continues to be our partners as they evolve the DC Universe. Anticipate a WB statement later today.

If anything it simply could be Cavill is taking a break from the role, until the studio gets their ducks in a row for a second installment of Man of Steel or have something for Cavill to truly dive into with the character, as Warner Bros. truly looks like they’re trying to explore what the other characters in the DC Comics universe have to offer with their future slate of movies.
