Rumor reports are floating around from suppose sources who are knowledgeable on the Suicide Squad project that both Joel Edgerton (Warrior, Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby) and Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, The Wolf of Wall Street, Fury) are being looked at for the role of Rick Flag after Tom Hardy had to drop out due to his current film The Revenant going over schedule and Jake Gyllenhaal passing on the role.
Joel Edgerton is a new name to be thrown around as a possible casting choice for the film, while Jon Bernthal has been rumored with being attached to the film for some time now, more so coming off of starring in David Ayer’s Fury.
Another unconfirmed report that’s also being reported today is coming from Umberto Gonzalez of Latino Review with Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump , Apollo 13), who’s supposedly in talks to join Suicide Squad to play General Eilgin.
UNCONFIRMED TWITTER RUMOR: Pending more concrete sourcing, I hear Gary Sinise supposedly in talks to join SUICIDE SQUAD as GENERAL EILING.

Though the same sources that are reporting the Jon Bernthal and Joel Edgerton are up for Rick Flag, are also saying Gary Sinise won’t be General Eilgin, who was also before being attached to DeathStroke. It’s said he’s going to play some other character, while Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike) is said to be eyed to play DeathStroke.
This is all very conflicting… but with that said, none of these reporters have been confirmed by Warner Bros. or anyone attached to the film, they still stand as rumors.
