According to The Hollywood Reporter, going by recent projections for The Mummy starring Tom Cruise, it’s looking very likely that Wonder Woman will top the domestic box office for a second weekend.
One of the industry’s most respected polling services, NRG, downgraded its projection to $38 million last week and to $35 million on Monday. Such surveys can certainly be unreliable, but if NRG is correct, The Mummy will lose this weekend’s domestic box-office race to holdover Wonder Woman.
This projection for the weekend for The Mummy becomes more likely as the embargo for The Mummy has lifted and the reviews aren’t being very kind to the film, in hand the word of mouth for it may not be strong enough to knock Wonder Woman from the top spot.
Deadline is also reporting that Wonder Woman, Tuesday box office is the second best Tuesday for a film in June with $14.4 million, first place going to Jurassic World with $24.3 million. Deadline is also reporting that Wonder Woman is set to beat out The Mummy, with $60 million, to that what’s now being projected for The Mummy with $35-$42 million.
