The box office numbers are in for Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey for opening weekend and the movie came in at number one with $33 million domestically, with a total of $81.4 million at the world wide box office.
This marks the worse box office for a DC Extended Universe movie, but with it also being the first R-Rated film in the DCEU lineup, as well as being the one with the lowest budgeted among the bunch with $84 million, the harshness of it underperforming way below what it was forecasted to open to ($40-$60 million) shouldn’t be seen as such a terrible faith for the movie.
As the film in four days has already made almost back its budget, with time to still turn a profit if the word of mouth is strong enough among those who aren’t seeking to see this movie fail, that it’ll helped to have strong enough legs in the upcoming weeks to go from the red into the black.
