Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, was asked if Warner Bros. pushed for DCEU crossovers in Birds of Prey or was she allowed to do what she liked, Yan went on to confirm that the studio did push for it, but they were pretty hands-off in terms to how she would connect Birds of Prey to the other DCEU movies.
“Yes and no. They were pretty supportive and hands-off in terms of that specific thing of having it connect to this film, the next film or anything like that. We paid homage where we felt it was appropriate.”
Yan also spoke on the transition of Harley Quinn from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad into Birds of Prey and the changes that were made:
“I also thought it would be very jarring to see Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, in a completely different look,” Yan continued. “So, we kept her tattoos, but then we also doctored them and grounded them in character and what she was going through. The ‘J’ turned into the mermaid, and ‘pudding’ was turned into ‘pudding cups.’ We kept her hair, and we thought, ‘What if she’s not taking care of it as well? What if it just kinda grows out?'”
Birds of Prey is set to be released on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray on May 12th, 2020.
