Suicide Squad director David Ayer, took to Twitter to reply to a fan’s tweet regarding his take on Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) character being overly sexualized, while in Cathy Yan’s Birds Of Prey she was a real character and not just eyecandy.

Ayer went on to respond that her story arc was sadly eviscerated and it was her movie in many ways, that he tried, but rendered Harley’s comic book accuracy. He goes on to say that everything is political now and he just wanted to entertain, but that he’ll do better.

Even though Ayer agreed with the criticism, many fans of Ayer’s take of Harley Quinn came to his defense, along with Editor-in-Chief of Joblo.com Paul Shirey:

The character of Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie once more, will once again grace us on the silver screen in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which is slated in theaters on April 1, 2022. Gunn has already reensured fans that his take on Harley will be exploding Paul Dini, Batman: The Animated Series Harley Quinn. Which one can only imagine will make old school Harley Quinn fans very happy.
