According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Idris Elba who’s best known to comic book fans for his role as Heimdall in the Marvel Studios movies, is in talks to replace Will Smith in James Gunn’s sequel to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, titled The Suicide Squad.
Smith has stepped down from the role due to scheduling conflict, now the role is ups to grabs and sources to the trade site have stated Elba met with Gunn, which went great, leading to talks with Warner Bros. to hire him on for the role.
The sources also state that Elba is Gunn’s first choice to replace Smith in the role, confirming that Deadshot will be one of the characters in the line-up for the movie. Looks to be the only characters that likely returning from the first movie are Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flagg, even though other sources say otherwise regarding Flagg.
The Suicide Squad is set to release in theaters on August 6th, 2021.
