According exclusively to Variety, filmmaker and writer Joss Whedon has came on-board to the DC Extended Universe as the director and writer for the standalone Batgirl movie.
Whedon is best known for his cult television shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse and mega film hits such as Marvel’s The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
This will not be Whedon’s first Warner Bros. project when it comes to a DC Comics property, as he was previous attached to helm a Wonder Woman movie, way before the DC Extended Universe was established.
This will be the third DC Film to feature a female as a lead, as Wonder Woman is set to release this year (June 2nd), starring Gal Gadot and Gotham City Sirens is in development with David Ayer at the helm, starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
