According Variety, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead have been cast as Black Canary and Huntress in Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey. Sources to the entertainment news outlets go on to state that actresses won the roles after testing multiple actresses.
Smollett-Bell and Winstead will be joining Margot Robbie, who was the first to join the movie after selling the idea to Warner Bros. after the success of playing Harley Quinn in Daivd Ayer’s Suicide Squad. In Birds of Prey the team of female heroes will be fighting a Gotham City crime lord who has yet to be disclosed by the studio.
Winstead is best known for her role in the movie 10 Cloverfield Lane and the FX television series Fargo, meanwhile Smollett-Bell is best known for starring in the television series True Blood and Underground.

As perviously reported, Birds of Prey is set to start production in Los Angeles on January 14th, 2019 with a release date in theaters on February 7th, 2020.
