According to The Wrap, Academy Award nominee Rosie Perez has been cast as Gotham City Police Department detective Renee Montoya in Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey.
In the New 52 comic books, Montoya is openly gay, ending having a relationship with Batwoman and taking on the costumed identity of the superhero the Question.
Perez joins Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Mary Elizabeth Winstead who have been cast as Black Canary and Huntress, along with Margot Robbie who’s returning as Harley Quinn after the success of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.
Perez went on to twitter to respond to her casting stating how she’s very excited and loves Robbie’s work and that director Cathy Yan is amazing:
Thank you so much! Very excited. Love @MargotRobbie‘s work & #CathyYan is amazing… And just overwhelmed by & appreciate all the wonderful comments & well wishes:) #birdsofprey @dc https://t.co/33Xi4F0q6x
