According exclusively to The Wrap, actor Ron Cephas Jones (This is Us) is in talks to play the role of the Wizard that gives Billy Batson (Asher Angel) the power to become the superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi), in David F. Sandberg’s Shazam.
New Line nor Warner Bros. have confirmed that Cephas Jones is in talks, nor has the actor or anyone else attached to the movie have confirmed the possible casting.
In the original comics, the Wizard was the one who went by the name “Shazam”, while the superhero grown up Billy Batson turned into the superhero named “Captain Marvel”. That has since changed in 2011 with the reentry of the character in the comics with the New 52, in which DC Comics removed the name “Captain Marvel” completely and remained with simply calling the character “Shazam”, due to copyright issues with Marvel Comics.
Shazam starts filming next month in Toronto, Canada with a release date of April 5th, 2018.
