Arrow executive producer Wendy Mericle confirmed in an interview with TVLine, that Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) won’t become Oracle, even though there was definitely talk of making her into the character.
For who are unfamiliar with Oracle in the comics, she’s Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl, who take on the Oracle alter-ego after being shot by The Joker, ends up being confined to a wheelchair.
“That’s something we definitely talked about [doing] with Felicity in the beginning…. But yeah, it will not be Oracle, sadly,” Mericle. “People have to tune in to see what happens.”
There’s been word that executive producer Marc Guggenheim pitched the idea of Felicity becoming Oracle on Arrow, but Geoff Johns rejected it, causing them to take it off the table, this story was told by David Ramsey who plays John Diggle on Arrow, at a comic convention.
It’s clear by Mericle’s comment, they’re sadden at the fact they aren’t being able to go ahead with making Felicity into Oracle, but ever since it’s been rumored that the idea was being thrown around, fans have strongly rejected the idea, so they’re better off.
