CHARACTER DESCRIPTION:
“Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC Universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have. Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans’ future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character,” Johns said.
In the article and on Twitter, writer Borys Kit it’s said that he is playing Robin and not Nightwing, which is what was originally said when the series was announced. Though its likely he starts off as Robin and becomes Nightwing to further capture his own identity.

In the comics Dick Grayson became Batman’s first ally after witnessing his parents murdered during their circus act. Bruce Wayne, knowing how Dick Grayson felt took him in and Robin was born. The introduction to Robin allowed for the writers to lighten Batman up a bit as he had nothing against killing or even using guns at the time.
Dick Grayson would eventually become Nightwing as a way to get out of Batman’s shadow and formed the Teen Titans shortly beforehand. Dick Grayson wore the cowl of The Batman on a few occasions, with the first time being after Bruce Wayne is crippled by Bane (Knightfall) in the story The Prodigal.
