Variety announced today that Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) is the director on a Harley Quinn spin-off based on the Birds of Prey comic book.
Shooting’s expected to begin later this year after Margot Robbie completes filming Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, to which she’s in talks to star in, of course if she doesn’t star in that movie things could change.
After completing work on the solo Batgirl script, Christina Hodson got tapped to write the Birds of Prey script, which she’s still working on. When its finished Cathy Yan’s expected to begin directing duties.
Deadline added to the story, implying that Yan got picked over quite a few established directors because of her pitch to those in charge. Robbie is said to have had a strict need to have a female director too.
