James Wan Excited to Tell the Story of Aquaman

James Wan, the director of the upcoming Aquaman solo film, was recently interviewed by MTV News will he promoted his latest film The Conjuring 2, during the interview Wan spoke on what fans can expect with Aquaman and how his take will blend in with the overall DC Extended Universe.

ON AQUAMAN’S REPUTATION AND WHAT HE WANTS FOR THE CHARACTER

“As we all know, Aquaman is somewhat the butt of the joke in the superhero world. There’s something cool about that. I love the idea of being the underdog, coming in with a take on this underdog character and completely blow people’s expectations away. Like, ’Oh, you thought he was going to be a wimpy character? No no no.’ It’s going to be so cool.”

MAKING AN ORIGIN FILM WITH A CHARACTER ALREADY ESTABLISHED

“There’s Justice League that happens before it, so I have to be respectful to that,” Wan said. “But in a lot of ways… it’s a continuation but there are origin elements as well — and that’s the story that I’m excited to tell.”

It’s been known for quite a while that James Wan got into directing with the hopes he can make a full-fledged superhero film, so it’ll be great to hear he has high hopes for the film. Not only that but it does sound like we are getting some origin film elements in spite of earlier news that this film and The Flash would strictly be continuations of Justice League: Part One.

Aquaman is set to be released on July 27, 2018
