In a recent panel discussion, Jeffrey Dean Morgan who played Thomas Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, spoke on how he would love to play Batman and even spoke on Flashpoint as to how it could happen.
Morgan also went on to mention that when he was working on Watchmen as The Comedian, Zack Snyder spoke to him about wanting him to play a Batman role. Could this be a hint as to why Zack Snyder had him cast in the role to keep the option open?

In the story Flashpoint, The Flash changes the course of history to save his mother and in the process altered the history of many of the Justice League members, one of which was Batman’s, who in the altered world is Thomas Wayne, as in the timeline Bruce Wayne was the one shot and killed, in the process Martha Wayne was turned into The Joker shortly afterward.
