As we previously reported, actor Joaquin Phoenix was in talks with The Joker standalone director Todd Phillips for the role of The Joker. Phillips went on to confirm that no deals was officially made but did go on to say that Phoenix is interested in playing the role but needed to wait on the studios go ahead.
Though in a recent interview with Allocine, while promoting his latest film Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot , Phoenix goes on to act and say he had no idea what the interviewer was asking him, when asked if it was true he was interested in playing The Joker or if he was up for the role.
Of course this could be one of those cases of an actor pretending they don’t know what’s going on, to protect the early processing being in talks for a role with a studio.
The standalone Joker movie has Scott Silver and Todd Phillips as writers, with Phillips as director and Martin Scorsese as Executive Producer. No production or release date has been confirmed yet.
