Before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the rest of the DC Extended Universe was announced, that there was originally going to be a Man of Steel 2 that was said to feature the DC Comics character Metallo as the villain. In fact, one of the reasons for David S. Goyer’s exit from the film universe was that he had written a Man of Steel sequel, but once the agreement was to introduce Batman and set up Justice League, he decided to stay with DC through television.
Now Russell Crowe, who played Jor-El in Man of Steel recently spoke with Digital Spy while promoting his latest film The Nice Guys, where he shed more light on the behind the scenes changes that occurred between Man of Steel’s completion and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
