Wonder Woman has gone 75 years without a live action film and within the past year we have seen her in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,  a her solo film directed by Patty Jenkins has been filmed and Justice League has nearly completed its own filming with Zack Snyder directing.

Deadline has now announced that Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to the filmography of Wonder Woman’s creator William Moulton Marston, titled Professor Marston & The Wonder Women from Topple Productions and Boxspring Entertainment.

Professor Marston & The Wonder Woman will star Luke Evans as Professor William Moulton Marston, Rebecca Hall as his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston and Bella Heathcote Olivia Byrne, the couple’s partner in relationship.  Both women served as inspiration for the character of Wonder Woman.

Here is the description:

Professor Marston & The Wonder Women details the life of Dr. William Moulton Marston (Evans), Harvard psychologist and inventor who created Wonder Woman in 1941, his wife, fellow psychologist and inventor Elizabeth (Hall), and their polyamorous relationship with Olive Byrne (Heathcote), a former student of Marston’s and an academic in her own right.

The film will explore how Marston dealt with the controversy surrounding his creation, which homophobic moral guardians charged would turn young girls into lesbians, while he and his partners navigated and concealed a romantic and family life that, if exposed, could have destroyed them all.

The film, written and directed by Andrea Robinson, who has been a Consulting Producer on How to Get Away With Murder. Topple Productions Co-Founder Andrea Sperling will be producing the feature, along with Amy Redford and Terry Leonard. Topple Productions Co-Founder Jill Solloway will serve as Executive Producer with Boxspring Entertainment’s Co-Founder Clare Munn. WME Global Packaged & Represented the film.
