Suicide Squad breaks the August record for opening weekend bringing in an estimated $135.1 million, the previous record was held by Guardians of the Galaxy, which opened to $94.3 million in 2014. Suicide Squad managed to outpace the previous record by $40.8 million.
If the estimate of $135.1 million for the weekend stays the same for the actual for the film’s box office, Suicide Squad will become the third highest grossing opening film domestically thus far for 2016.
