The standalone Joker origin movie that’s going to take place outside the DC Films Universe is looking to be starting production on May 1st, 2018, according to The Tracking Boards. The information also states that Geoff Johns is serving as producer on the movie along with Todd Phillips and Martin Scorsese.

Take this news with a grain of salt as Jeff Sneider shared this on his twitter account in response to a debate he is having with Variety’s Justin Kroll over breaking the casting news on Jessica Chastain being in negotiations for the role of Adult Beverly in It: Chapter 2, but seeing as he was right on that, its possible he’s right here too. If true we should hear further news in the coming weeks.
Joaquin Phoenix is the only actor to be attached to the film, though it’s not a done deal he’s said to be interested in The Joker. For those unaware, Jared Leto is returning as The Joker in several films connected to the DC Films Universe, this film with Phoenix is set outside that world and is a film in its own world.
