TNT President Kevin Reilly Gives Titans Update

The TNT Upfront Presentation occurred this morning and while Titans was disappointingly absent from any foreseeable future schedule, the President of TNT Kevin Reilly assures fans that the series is still in early development and the hopes are that casting and production will start this Summer.

He also claims the series will be groundbreaking and nothing like TNT has ever done before.

“I sat down with Akiva and said — and he ultimately agreed — that the [TV] landscape right now is well-serviced on the superhero front. So what space is this going to inhabit?” Reilly related. “And really what he wants to do is be very true” to the source material.

As Reilly noted, Teen Titans “was a groundbreaking property when it first started,” so there is an opportunity here to set the TNT pilot — to either be titled Titans orBlackbirds, based on which rumor you subscribe to — apart from the ever-growing superhero pack. “There were consequences to things that happened; it wasn’t somebody died and they moved on. There was the first superhero to be an addict [in Roy Harper’s Speedy]. It’s a coming-of-age story for Robin, who feels like Batman has betrayed him.”

Once the project ultimately comes to fruition, Reilly says, “I think it’s going to end up being a very, very interesting offering. I think it’s going to be excellent.”
