Actor Zachary Levi who’s best known for the hit spy comedy television series Chuck and will appear in Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok as Fandral, has been officially cast as Captain Marvel Shazam, as announced exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter and confirmed by Shazam director David F. Sandberg through Instagram.
According to The Hollywood Reporter article, other actors that were in line to possibly be cast in the role were John Cena, Derek Theler (Baby Daddy), Zane Holtz (From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series), Billy Magnussen and Jake McDorman (Limitless). That’s a long list of well suited actors that Levi was able to beat out for the role.
Shazam is set to start production in February in Toronto, Canada and follow the screenplay written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke, with a release date for sometime in April of 2019, as confirmed by director Sandberg.
