George Barris who’s the man behind creating one of the most influential cars in TV and Film cinema the Batmobile, has sadly passed away at the age of 89.

This Batmobile was made for the 60’s Batman TV Series by William Dozier with Adam West (Batman) and Burt Ward (Robin) as the Dynamic Duo. This has been a huge staple in which many movie cars took inspiration, like K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider and of course Tim Burton’s Batman film.

Brett Barris, the son of the legendary creator made the announcement earlier today and as fans of DC Comics and the influence Batman has had we all give our condolences to his friends and family.

In the announcement Brett Barris went on to say:

“Sorry to have to post that my father, legendary kustom car king George Barris, has moved to the bigger garage in the sky,” Brett Barris wrote. “He passed on peacefully in his sleep at 2:45 am. He was surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home. He lived his life they way he wanted til the end. He would want everyone to celebrate the passion he had for life and for what he created for all to enjoy.”

Here is a clip in which George Barris gives an in-depth discussion about the Batmobile, what went into creating it, and which cars were used for what scenes.
