The Executive Producer of Gotham John Stephens, spoke tonight to ComicBook.com in an exclusive where it was revealed that Azrael was in fact coming to Gotham.
“And yes, we wouldn’t be telling an Order of St. Dumas story without also intending to tell an Azrael story. Just keep watching.”
Azrael in the comics was the alias to Jean-Paul Valley, who at one point took over the mantle of Batman after Bane broke Bruce Wayne’s back in the popular “Knightfall” story arc. His method was much different from Bruce Wayne’s method as he was willing to kill, eventually forcing Bruce to come out of retirement to take him out. Dick Grayson(who was Nightwing at the time)ended up taking his place afterward during the “Prodigal” story arc. It’s not known if Jean-Paul Valley will be the man behind the mask or if it will be a legacy he ends up taking on later on.
