Ben Affleck Talks About Directing Batman Solo Film

Ben Affleck, the man behind the new cape and cowl in the upcoming DC Extended Universe spoke with Total Film for the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice special issue, which issue is now on sale, about the possibility of directing the Solo Batman film, why he would and why he may not be able too.

ON WHY HE WANTS TO DIRECT

“Look, if I could make it work, yeah,” Affleck says. “Obviously it would be like a dream. The trick is, as to any movie, is to make sure that you – if you’re going to direct it – that you can make it good. You’ve got to have the right idea and the right take on it.

“Broadly speaking, it’s something I’d be open to, for sure. It’s a very exciting idea.”

ON WHY AFFLECK MAY NOT BE ABLE TO DIRECT

“He’s got a busy schedule,” producer Charles Roven tells Total Film. “He’s about to start a movie now [Live By Night]. And he’s also got obligations to be in the Justice League movies. The calendar is a bit tricky.”

This could mean that he has yet to officially sign on to Direct, despite other unconfirmed reports, but it could also be a clever mislead. There’s reports that Warner Bros. already pushed back Ben Affleck’s other films, rumored for their DC Slate, so it’s possible they’ll do it again, but the chances are small. It also confirms that a solo Batman film is sooner than we know as they won’t wait on Ben Affleck.
