Ben McKenzie Weighs in on Gotham and Supergirl Ratings Battle

As we reported before Ben McKenzie was at Wizard World Chicago answering some Q&A’s from the audience, this time however, one of the moderators asked him how he felt about Gotham on FOX and Supergirl over at CBS being on at the same time and why DC would let that happen?

He answers that in today’s world people can watch what they want and he even says “It’s about time we have a female superhero” to which the audience cheers in approval.

He also goes on to say that while he really hopes people love Supergirl he hopes they’ll love theirs as well and watch Gotham live and Supergirl “later” to some laughter.

My name is Eric and I am loving this current comic book boom, I was around for the first one with Superman: The Movie, Supergirl(being the first female and crossover film) and Batman and have been enjoying the resurgence since Blade. Can't express how much I cannot wait for WB & DC to take back the film universe but until than I love the TV shows we have gotten. I only started reading comics about 10 years ago but am connected more to DC over Marvel or any other major company. If you wanna chat feel free to contact me

  • Okay, so it’s good that DC folks are staying positive about it. I still say it was wrong of CBS to put SG on at the exact same time as Gotham.

    • It’s very weird, because regardless what either one may believe, they do share the same a percentage of the same audience.

      • Yes, which is why I continue to look at CBS as the culprit. They are shooting their own selves in the foot. I’d have much rather them put SG on Wednesdays @ 9, where there’s no DC content.

      • I guess it’s also fortunate, that we now live in a world where technology has caught up with our entertainment. I’m usually at work when both shows will be airing, so I end up watching them via DVR when I get home, or the next day anyway. I usually have as many as 2-3 shows recorded on any given weeknight (& ALOT of them are D shows), so I sometimes end up binge watching on my days off.
However, I really want all of these DC shows to be as successful as possible (re: not another Constantine situation), so I plan to watch SG at least on the same night.
