J.K. Simmons who has joined Justice League as Commissioner James Gordon, spoke with Entertainment Weekly recently while at the 2016 MLB All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game, a bit about understanding the role and what he hopes to bring to the character in future films involving the character.

HOW HE SEES COMMISSIONER GORDON IN THE COMICS

“In the comics, he’s a pretty tough guy. He’s not just this comic relief,” he explained.

ON HIS ROLE IN JUSTICE LEAGUE AND FUTURE FILMS

“In the first film that we’re currently shooting [Justice League], my part is not as big as, knock wood, it will be in some of the future films…but the plan is if that there will be more Commissioner Gordon in the future. And I have absolutely no idea, zero idea, but I’m lobbying right now: let Commissioner Gordon be a badass.”

ON WHETHER OR NOT HE HAS SPOKEN WITH GARY OLDMAN FOR ADVICE

“I have not, although our kids have been in school together,” he revealed. “Actors like to do their own thing. Gary Oldman is a great, great actor, and I think he was awesome as Commissioner Gordon, and I’m doing a different version.”

We already know he will be in the Ben Affleck’s directed Batman film, but it be cool to hear he could be in other film. It’s also nice to see that he is getting into his role and not looking to other actors for inspiration.
