Animation Director Jay Oliva went to Twitter to discuss a scene that he and Zack Snyder storyboarded together and described how impressed he was at how good Snyder did at translating that pitch to live action.
After asking him if he created the scene or just created the storyboards he went on to credit the team that he worked with, how the scene was ultimately created and what the inspiration was behind the scene.
He describe creating the scene as “freeing” having directed many DC Animated films such as The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox, Justice League Dark and many more, and not having the budget to fully go all out as he was able too and describes anime as a huge inspiration in forming the scene.
Did you create this scene or just pitch the way the scene turned out? I love this scene, so powerful. Its ridiculous how many still say Superman caused the destruction in MOS,when its clear he didnt. Hell he caused more damage in Superman 2, but that had humor 2 it so its ok

I basically did what I couldn’t do in my animated films due to budget and time constraints. So it was very freeing to just make something as bad ass as I could imagine. I wanted to do something that was never seen before in live action but has only been done in anime.

I love all forms of animation but anime in particular is where my heart is and I wanted to do something very DragonBall Z, Birdy the Mighty, and One Punch man like in tone and action.

In the end, it’s an amalgamation of what I drew out and what Damon and his awesome stunt crew came up with.
