Batgirl and the Birds of Prey has recently their first story arc in DC Comics and writer’s Julie and Shawna Benson, the writer’s of the current incarnation of the characters of Batgirl, The Huntress and Black Canary, were interviewed by Hitfix.

They discuss what they love about the characters and if they would be interested in bringing Birds of Prey back on television, as they are the current writers on The CW series The 100, which would be cool since there has been interest from Ashley Scott to return to the role of The Huntress.

ON PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHARACTERS AND TV SERIES

Really, really familiar. We had read the Gail Simone run, obviously. We had read the Chuck Dixon run. We had read The New 52. We were up to date on the Birds. Luckily, we were recently reading the Grayson comic that had Huntress in it. We were reading the Batgirl run. It was great to have those team-ups and then go in and pitch the next arc.

SHAWNA BENSON: I was also familiar with the old show from the early 2000s, The Birds of Prey.

JULIE: RIP, TV show.

ON BRINGING BACK THE BIRDS OF PREY TO TV

JULIE: That’s what I’m saying, let’s do it. (laughter)

SHAWNA: We would love the opportunity to do that.

ON WRITING THE COMIC BOOK WITH THE PLAN TO BRING THEM TO TV ONE DAY FOR THE CW

JULIE: That would be great to use these as a template. Wouldn’t that be amazing?
