Keiynan Lonsdale Cast as Wally West on The Flash

Keiynan Lonsdale (Insurgent) is being reported by Variety, that he has been cast as Wally West in The Flash.

He will be joining other speedster such as Barry Allen, Jay Garrick, Professor Zoom and Reverse Flash who has been on the show or are appearing soon in the 2nd season. This is certainly an exciting time to be a fan of The Flash.

Character description is as follows:

“Just like when we met Grant for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero,” The Flash’s executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said. “We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.”

Wally West is known as first appearing as Kid Flashhe’s the nephew of both Iris West and Barry Allen. It’s not clear if he’ll still be the nephew or possibly an unmentioned brother, since we have heard almost nothing about her mother’s side of the family.

Smallville teased Wally West in the Season 4 episode “Run” as one of Bart Allen’s alias’ he was played by Kyle Gallner. While the character never officially appeared he also used Jay Garrick’s name as an alias and that was eventually revealed to be a real person within the universe, so it’s possible he is also in the universe. Although, there is a Season 11 Comic Book I am not aware if Wally West or Jay Garrick ever actually make an appearance.wally_west_new52

In the comics, Wally West becomes the new Flash when Barry Allen “died” during Crisis on Infinite Earths.  He is also a founding member of Teen Titans.  In the New 52 Wally West is shown to die due to a car crash in the future with Iris having an ex-con brother named Daniel, it’s possible we’ll be introduced to Wally as he has no place to go after his dad is arrested, although its been confirmed that Iris has another brother who is the actual father of Wally West.
