When it was announced that Ben Affleck was stepping down from being the director of The Batman, it was also reported that Matt Reeves was on the shortlist of directors to take the position.
We then reported that Reeves had begun following Geoff Johns, co-head of DC Films and co-writer of The Batman and now it seems that it is in fact official that Matt Reeves is in early talks to direct.
According to Variety, Matt Reeves is already in a committed mode but has not officially signed the contract to direct. Reeves is still on post production for “War of the Planet of the Apes” and may begin prep work on The Batman soon afterwards.
Reeves has directed films such as Cloverfield and the last two Planet of the Apes films, each being box office and critical hits.
The Batman has no release date at this moment but the story was written by Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns with a rewrite by Chris Terrio, who had done the rewrite for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice after David S. Goyer left the project.
