Ilya Salkind and his father Alexander Salkind having produced the successful first 3 Superman films with Christopher Reeve and the not so successful spinoff film Supergirl with Helen Slater decided to cut their teeth with Clark Kent during his younger years as the Boy of Steel.
Starring John Haymes Newton (Season 1 only) and Gerard Christopher as Clark Kent/Superboy and Stacy Haiduk as Lana Lang. Superboy (later rebranded as The Adventures of Superboy) ran for 100 episodes over the course of 4 seasons from 1988-1992 and included an array of villains from the comics, really embracing its comic book origins. From Metallo (Michael Callan) to Bizarro (Barry Meyer), of course Lex Luthor (Scott Wells season 1 only and Sherman Howard season 2-4) and even alternate timelines which really explores the idea of other Earths like no other show really did.
While the acting can be cheesy at times and the show itself started cheesy you owe it to yourself to check it out if you are a DC fan. Below are links to getting the series on Amazon Instant Video and DVD.
