Tyrese Gibson Fires Back At Forbes Article On Not Casting Him As Green Lantern

Tyrese Gibson, who has recently had success with the Fast and Furious franchise, with the newest film making over $1.5 billion dollars, joined in on a campaign to get himself cast as John Stewart aka Green Lantern in a future DC Cinematic Universe film. He had mentioned before that fans started lobbying for him and his love for the character made him want to fight for the role.

Well a recent article by Forbes, was very unflattering to Tyrese Gibson, so much so that he has taken to his Facebook and fired back at the writer of the article and his inability to do research before making negative comments.

Open letter to the misinformed writer at Forbes!

Amazing that you would jump out there and write a story and make a complete fool of yourself like this…. I guess the concept of “Perception vs Reality” has just sat in – in a real embarrassing way- playing a “role” is doing just that… Playing a role….

Do your research I was at home innocent it’s the FANS who started the “Tyrese Green Lantern Campaign” so again do your research bro…NOT just write a whole article based on movies that I’ve done that in your mind are “popular”… All dramatic roles…

Baby Boy? Four Brothers,? Waist Deep..? Black Nativity.? Annapolis? I’ve actually done more dramatic roles and movies then anything comedic – or charming- I’m an entertainer and were supposed to be use to people writing random blogs and stories – that’s fine…. Know your facts, and DO your research before your press that UPLOAD button… Especially on Forbes champ!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend – I’ve provided your list of movies…. When you do your re-write… Since you decided to typecast me… I would appreciate an apology for writing this misinformed article…. Thanks – Tyrese Gibson

Eric Curto

My name is Eric and I am loving this current comic book boom, I was around for the first one with Superman: The Movie, Supergirl(being the first female and crossover film) and Batman and have been enjoying the resurgence since Blade. Can't express how much I cannot wait for WB & DC to take back the film universe but until than I love the TV shows we have gotten. I only started reading comics about 10 years ago but am connected more to DC over Marvel or any other major company. If you wanna chat feel free to contact me

  • Boy this is getting entertaining… someone pass me the popcorn!

  • Yep, pretty much the exact same things I’ve been saying, when people claim he’s not right for the role. Those are the exact movies I have in my mind, when I picture Tyrese. Not F&F, and not Transformers. I’m just don’t think the majority of the comic book movie fan base are aware of the majority of his work. He’s done serious roles, military roles, drama roles, & action roles. How does that somehow not qualify him for the role as GL?

    • Eric Curto

admittedly I have not seen these roles but I always feel if an actor is good they can play just about any role and he has shown to at least be able to handle an ensembled cast, so him handling a solo role in a franchise can be great, but will check those films out

      • That’s the problem, a lot people haven’t seen him in those roles, they only remember him for the bigger films like the Transformers and Furious movies, where he’s always cracking jokes.

        • Yep, which is also exactly what I’ve been saying. I’ve been aware of Tyrese for years before the mainstream audience had probably ever heard of him. Baby Boy & Waist Deep are very intense films, where Tyrese was in the leading roles. Now granted, those films might not be everybody’s cup of tea, especially given the genre (urban gangsta drama) but they definitely showcase his ability to do more serious roles.

        • Eric Curto

Well the fact that he can make such a huge presence in a film filled with actors who are either better or in some way equal that shows he has the ability to lead a film.

  • He seems, very possibly, like a jerk and very haughty in the least. What is he compensating for? Anyway, just turns me off of the whole idea which is disappointing because I do believe he has been cast.

    • Eric Curto

How? He confronted, in a professional way the writers error, he isn’t criticising the writer’s opinion, he is criticising the fact he didn’t do any research and was making it seem like he started the campaign himself. That’s not being a jerk, that is calling a writer out on his crap writing, I wish more actors did that, we might have less El Mayimbe’s

      • I’ll admit very quickly, that I’m judging this by no more than the perceived tone of his post and prior impressions. He seems, to me, like a haughty person. Yes I’m glad when actors respond and correct fallacious writers, this just doesn’t seem to be the way. Again though, this is all just personal opinion.
