David Ayer Directing Gotham City Sirens Starring Margot Robbie

The Hollywood Reporter has just broke the news that the Harley Quinn spin-off film will be Gotham City Sirens and be produced by David Ayer, who is directing too.

Margot Robbie is on board as Executive Producer, along with starring in the film. Geneva Robertson-Dworet will be writing the screenplay, with Geoff Johns and Jon Berg serving as Producers with Ayer.

Gotham City Sirens was a comic book title that ran for 26 issues and was created by Writer Paul Dini and Artist Guillem March. The story featured Harley Quinn leaving The Joker and teaming up with Catwoman and Poison Ivy in several situations as they live as recluse together. The series occurred shortly before the New 52 started and was considered a huge success.

With the way Suicide Squad ended, it certainly sounds like they may appear in a film before the film comes out to set up the events of Harley Quinn going out on her own. This is of course assuming they are adapting the story to a fault.

No casting announcements have happened but with it officially green-lit we are bound to hear some soon. David Ayer has confirmed his involvement along with the line up of characters that will be featured.

The article that broke the news also mentions that the Suicide Squad sequel is also in early development with the hopes to spin Will Smith’s Deadshots character in his own film.
