MTV UK’s Youtube channel released a video recently of Mark Strong, who was promoting his new film Kingsman: The Secret Service, talking about whether he would reprise his role as Sinestro in the DC Cinematic Universe. Mark Strong played the role in the 2011 Green Lantern film starring Ryan Reynolds, even having an end credit scene which never went anywhere due to the boxoffice bombing.
He responds saying that he’d be surprised if they incorporated his version of the character into the new universe as he believes they are going a whole new direction. He also talks about how much he enjoyed working on the role and how he felt they did the character justice as he was close to his comic book counterpart.
Keep in mind Common was recently cast in Suicide Squad in an unknown role, but George Miller who had Common cast as Green Lantern in Justice League: Mortal, it’s possible Common was cast as John Stewart/Green Lantern. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities to see an actor who played a role before return or get cast in a new role, so I would love to see him return, even those who didn’t like Green Lantern still praised Mark Strong for his role as Sinestro in the film, for good reason.
