Sean Young Campaigning For Catwoman

Actress Sean Young has a pretty interesting history with the role of Catwoman and the Batman universe, as she was originally cast as Vicki Vale for Tim Burton’s 1989 adaptation of Batman but had to be replaced by Kim Basinger when she sustained an injury while riding her horse.

“If [producer] Jon Peters had wanted me I think they could have shot around it. I think he just had a hard-on for Kim Basinger.”

“He had a good excuse to let me go and hire her. It hurt me, but that’s show business.”

Two years later she enthusiastically auditioned for the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman for Batman Returns by entering the audition dressed as Catwoman. . Michelle Pfeiffer ended up with the role and was even signed on for a spin-off film that never happened, at least not with Tim Burton or Michelle Pfeiffer involved.

TALKING ABOUT DIRECTOR TIM BURTON

“I guess he was hiding in the bathroom,” she offered. “Who knows?”

She even went as far as going on the Joan Rivers show to call out Tim Burton when she lost the role of Catwoman to Michelle Pfeiffer.

Now with a new Catwoman ready to be cast for Gotham City Sirens and the overall DC Extended Universe, Sean Young is trying to make it clear she wants the role and since Ben Affleck played an aging Batman, she can play an aging Catwoman.

“If these Warner Bros. executives now were really good businessmen, they’d let me play Catwoman today, and I’d make a smash amount of money,” she said.

“But they’re too stupid. You can lead people to water, but you can’t make them great artists. Nobody wants to take that risk, it’s too scary.

“If they’re wrong, it can cost them their job. If there were really good businessmen over there, it’d be an obvious no brainer, but I’m not running the studio.”

While she does have a point about the fact Catwoman in this universe will be older than we have ever seen her, its unlikely that is enough to get the actress hired. With Gotham City Sirens being made into a film its clear the DC Extended Universe is going to include a Catwoman that still has her athleticism and is likely going to be younger than we may be expecting.

The Dark Knight Returns did feature an aging Selina Kyle but she was no longer fit enough to be athletic as she is in the Gotham City Sirens comics.
