The Joker and Harley Quinn Film in Development

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that a Joker and Harley Quinn film is now in development and will bring back Jared Leto and Margot Robbie as the titular characters.

According to the report, the film is being fast tracked by the studio which will see Glenn Ficarra and John Requa of Crazy Stupid Love being being involved to write and direct the feature. The film’s described as a “criminal love story” and is planned to be released after Suicide Squad 2.

This news comes after the announcement that a solo Joker film outside of the DC Extended Universe was in development with Martin Scorsese as producer and that Jared Leto was returning for Suicide Squad 2 and Gotham City Sirens. If true it is likely we will get an adaptation of Paul Dini’s Eisner award winning story Mad Love, which gave us a story about how The Joker brainwashed Harleen Quinzel and turned her into Harley Quinn. We got a little taste of this in Suicide Squad. The story also portrayed a classic story of domestic violence and how the victim often times blames themselves instead of the abuser. The New Batman Adventures adapted the story.

Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed the story yet, though it certainly feels like the studio has enough films in development or about to go in development to say that DC Films can be its own separate studio, which would be cool if that happens.
