Anna Diop Cast as Starfire in Titans

Deadline reported today that actress Anna Diop was cast as Starfire on the upcoming series Titans for DC’s unnamed streaming service. This comes weeks after the announcement of the casting of Teagan Croft as Raven.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION:

Diop’s Starfire (aka Koriand’r) is an alien princess from a warrior planet who seeks asylum on Earth. A no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners stranger on our world, she has the ability to shoot energy bolts and fly. Searching for her place on Earth, she’ll come into contact with the Titans.

What is interesting here is that Teagan Croft is 13 years old, while Anna Diop is 29 years old, a huge gap in age difference, though she looks younger than she is so she can past for early 20’s. Could this mean the Titans were around for awhile and Raven is the new recruit? It’s also possible that Starfire is the new member and will act a mother type, as the description describes her as coming in contact with the Titans.

Starfire was created by Marv Wolfman (Writer) and George Perez (Artist) and first appeared in DC Comics Presents #26 in October of 1980. She joined the Teen Titans  after landing on Earth and meeting Dick Grayson’s Robin. She is often linked romantically to Dick Grayson. Starfire is also connected to Red Hood and the Outlaws during the New 52 timeline and recently rejoined the Teen Titans after Damian Wayne’s Robin kidnaps her and forces her to rejoin the team.
