Since the Suicide Squad sequel was announced we have heard very little in the way of progress, as first installment director David Ayer was confirmed he was onboard to direct the Gotham City Sirens movie, instead of returning for the Suicide Squad sequel.

Soon afterward Mel Gibson confirmed he was in talks with Warner Bros. to direct the sequel, but nothing was officially announced and in the latest reports by The Hollywood Reporter, its states Gibson moved on due to script/production delay.

In regards to the script, it was perviously announced that Tarzan writer Adam Cozad was set it write the sequel’s script, but things went quiet after that news broke and the latest reports by The Hollywood Reporter states that Zak Penn (Avengers, Ready Player One) is on-board to give Cozad’s script a new treatment.

It’s also being reported that director Jaume Collet-Serra is the frontrunner to direct the sequel. Collet-Serra is best known for directing Non-Stop and The Shallows, he’ll also be directing the upcoming Liam Neeson film The Commuter.

The reports are also stating that Will Smith and Margot Robbie, who play Deadshot and Harley Quinn are also returning to the sequel and it’s being eyed to start production in mid-2018.

With San Diego Comic Con only a week away, it makes sense that a confirmation like this will be announced during the Warner Bros. panel on Saturday, July 22nd.
